From time to time we schedule shorter retreats that are more ‘bare bones’ in style - light on formality –– and may be focused on bushwalking and indigenous teachings from Aboriginal elders about being on country, or Zen arts of writing and calligraphy/brushwork.
Another focus can be the art of gardening and work practice (see Zen Gardening). Another still is focused koan inquiry in a shared collective space. One more is the Dharma of dream and dreamwork. This space is always open for new possibilities to appear.
Writing and Meditation Retreats
Susan Murphy Roshi offers occasional 2-4 day short retreats focusing on writing and meditation in a beautiful rainforest setting on the south coast near Berry, two hours from Sydney. Each day begins with meditation, and the writing exercises and provocations are offered in a way that grows naturally from the mind coming to some stillness. There’s a strong emphasis placed on reading work aloud and being heard, with encouraging clear feedback to help you shape your work and grow your writer’s acumen.
Swimming in the pristine creek, bushwalking, enjoying excellent food and warm social evenings are all part of the feast.
