Knitting, Witnessing, Resisting: Eco-Dharma with the Knitting Nannas

This was a special session with two members of the Knitting Nannas, Helen Kvelde and Dom Jacobs, for an honest and inspiring conversation about activism, care, and courage.

The Knitting Nannas are well known for their gentle but determined presence on the front lines of environmental defence—bearing witness, knitting in protest, and showing up with humour, persistence, and deep love for Country.

In the session, Helen and Dom shared their personal journeys into direct action: what drew them in, what sustains them, and why they believe everyday people—especially elders—have a powerful role to play in creating change.

They spoke about the wide range of approaches used within the climate movement, from community education and peaceful presence to arrests and constitutional challenges, offering a rare first-hand insight into how compassionate action and steady commitment can shape movements and minds.

We are deeply grateful to Helen and Dom for their generosity, honesty and courage in sharing their experience with us.

For anyone who wasn’t able to attend, or for those who would like to revisit the conversation, the recording is now available here:
